Yeah, it came out of a front-end wreck, and I never put 2 and 2 together that (on a late car) that would mean the torque tube would bend the torsion bar carrier. MAGK944 figured that one out.

I put the '86 spring plates and trailing arms onto the original '84 torsion bar carrier, and it worked. It's all in the car now and it's all good again. I'll get it aligned this weekend, for now it's parked.

Crash protection, there are tabs on the torque tube that mate with the ones on the tb carrier. The tb carrier absorbs all the shock from the torque tube and engine in a frontal impact. Basically stops the engine from hitting the firewall and crushing you.
