Default common prblm of overheating 944s?

Hey guys,

I'm still on the hunt for my future 944 and I'd say every third car I come across says that the car is running hot and they don't know why... I'm just wondering if this is a common problem or if those cars are still F/S for a reason lol

Could be an air bubble in the system, if its not properly bled it the gauge will go up and down constantly. Especially in early cars, as the gauge is not damped.

Mine likes to creep a little sometimes until the fans kick.

I put a 180 degree thermostat in, bled it a few times and was good.

Make sure your fans work like they should though.

there are at least two different thermostats and coolant temperature sensors available dependant on the Country and climate the car is likely to be used in.
Many car parts companies are unaware of the correct temperature thermostats for their market.
I was sold a thermostat that put my normal running coolant temperature up near the half guage mark which leaves very little lee-way before the guage is in the red .

UK 944 cars originally had thermostats fitted that kept the normal engine temperature at 1/4 of the guage and the radiator sensor switched the fans on before the guage reached half way.

I believe a lot of cars are being fitted with thermostats that are set with the normal running coolant temperature too high for the climate they are used in

Mine originally ran at the 1/4 way mark, until I put the 180 in. Much happier and my heat is noticeably better.

It's not the radiator design that is causing the overheating issues. The NA radiator has been cooling the 5.3l swap perfectly. What's funny is I always had overheating issues with the factory 4 cyl's, even with new pump and T-stats installed time-to-time.
