Default Wide Body Quarter Panles

Alright guys A little help please, i recently recieved the wide body rear quarter panels from gt racing and i am having a hell of a time getting them to fit. They are made of fiberglass and to cover myself from looking stupid, yes i have taken the old panel off. the problem im having is lining it up with the rear light, gas cap and still having it be able to sit flush down below the door. btw i have an 87 944s its almost as if there isnt enough flex in the fiber glass to make it fit and line up with the body lines. Any one out there that has succesfully done this? Tips?

You might try to message 944-LT1 on http://944hybrids.forumotion.com/ I THINK he has the same user name here as well. As i recall he did it to his and i think it involved a heat gun and sacrifice of a barnyard animal. Actually there are a few over there that have done wide body fiberglass.

I think the fact that he said "GT racing" has something to do with it.

This is why I'm scared to order anything fiber glass. It seems like everybody has a problem with it in some way or another.

I have never purchased a piece from them that didn't need work to fit. They do however market their parts for race cars, no excuse for lack of fitnent I know, but race cars really don't need to look good close up, more functional than anything.

Yea plus its easy to produce poor fitment when theres no real competition to rival your products.

There are some guys in Europe doing some good quality cf parts. I saw a post here a while back and they virtually did the whole car. I'm not sure if it was a one-off or if they were selling parts, but they must have the molds. I'llcontinue to search unless someone beats me to a link to the post.

I own a Body shop and have done a complete 944 turbo widebody kit from GT racing. First let me say that I wouldnt do another one for myself let alone a paying customer! R u bonding the panels on or making them removable with some sort of fastners? Either way you will be doing a lot of heating bending grindind and fiberglassing to make them fit!! It is not a job for the faint of heart Good luck PS Its time to sell my pride and joy so anyone interested let me know!

Same experience here, albeit with CF front fenders only. I had a body guy do it for me. He figured that even if the molds were good, they weren't left in long enough to cure properly. He ended up using washers under every screw to shim the fenders. The end result has decent gaps. link in sig.

Hello Hayden and folks. I'm sorry to hear you guys are having trouble. While it is true that fiberglass doesn't always fit like the steel original, I think you have to remember that allot of these older cars aren't perfectly straight any more and they weren't super straight from the factory to begin with, at least not compared to todays standards. We have many customers who are using our body panels for their street as well as track cars and have no challenges. GT Racing actually has a big following in the 944 community and we have many repeat customers. We pride ourselves in making quality body panels. This is especially true for the track car guys. We are always happy to help any customer who is having a challenge. Lot's of times you just need to think out of the box. Please let me know if I can help.

Sincerely,

I just want to say that i have no personal experience with GT racing so i don't want to seem like im bashing them. The're still in business so they must be doing something right.

Working on it, I never think to get on Rennlist when i'm at home. It's so much easier to get on at work.
But soon, I have the pictures, I'll put them up soon.
