Sounds like you'd be better off selling the 944 and buying a 928 if you want the trans and interior of such. :)

+1

ya its goint to be a built 7a turbo shooting for 600 whp as to the interior i have a late style interior i just like the 928 one better i dont like the over all look of the 928 as much as i like my 944 and a 928 trany is weeker? can any one confirm this?

ernie9468 02-12-2012 11:08 AM

600 whp in that 83 are you serious or just pulling our legs.As mention none of the 928 interior will fit in your 944 so forget it.Will like to see pics of your interior, you previously sais that you updated the suspension can we also see pics of that ,thanks.

If you are serious rather than just dreaming, that is going to be an ambitious project requiring $$$'s. Confusing since you say you don't want to spend $1500 on a trans that would do the job.

You'll be needing much more than an 87 suspension and some coilovers. Start thinking about big red brakes, custom bellhousing and trans adapters, spaceframe to hold that 928 trans plus the cost of the trans. Your at about $10k for starters without all the other stuff like engine management and engine/turbo. It's a $25k project easy without paint or interior and your 83 944 will probably be worth less than $10k when it is finished.

+1 the OP better sell that 944 NA & find himself a 951/S2/968 to start with. Here is a 944 NA to a Audi 7A NA transplante & look at what was involve in doing so.I can only imagine the cost of turboing that motor & trying to get 600 whp out of it and dropping it in a 944 NA..www.944-20v.nl/

We are not arguing your fab & mechanical skills here, simply trying to tell you that you choose the wrong car to slap a 600/800 HP motor in the engine bay.

royalschwarz 02-12-2012 09:45 PM

How are you planning on stopping this 600hp 944?

Olli Snellman 02-13-2012 04:04 AM

None of the 944s models either early or late came with side skirts

Those are aftermarket, as Ernie says the factory didn't fit any skirts to 944's.
Not correct, at least the shape is factory original.

These are original factory skirts.Have seen this car "in live". Did some service to this 944 S in December. They had even factory part numbers on them.

turbo325is 02-13-2012 08:48 PM

lol idk i have a spare set but i didnt think the rocker would be worth more then 100. as to the build i was just going to run big reds. i will mw making my owne coil overs. and i want 500 to 600 whp i dont think that is crazy i have had an e30 with 500 whp. can any one tell me the breaking point of a turbo trany and the torque tube. im still getting all the parts i need for the build that is why i was looking in to the 928 trany. just trying to figure out my options. i do have 90% of the swap parts inculding the engine. thank you for the help and i know there are better cars tu build i just like doing somehting diffrent.

turbo325is 02-16-2012 04:43 PM

so other then the breaks and stronger trany is there any diffrent or better about a turbo car?

ramius665 02-16-2012 05:10 PM

The 944 Turbo had a stiffened chassis and larger sway bars as well.

If you search google for about 30 seconds, you should be able to find the blog about a group of people in Scandinavia that swapped an Audi 5 cyl engine into a 944. Required extensive fabrication to get everything to fit. Wish you the best with this project but I think you'd find a V8 swap would be quicker and easier.
