I didn't want to custom build a subwoofer enclosure if I could buy one already made. Found this 10" sub enclosure here that is a perfect fit in the spare tire well after you cut the spare tire mount out of the way:

I do prefer keeping my spare tire, so I caught some wood and measured and cut a box of prefect volume for my 12" rockford to fit in one corner of my hatch (hid the amp/cap in side wheel well area)

Yes it is this box - Hertzlocker - JL Audio 10w3v3 Subwoofer Enclosure at the link on the original post. I'm running 60W to it from an old Linear Power 2602 amp stashed in the drivers rear fender well compartment. Sub is an older Boston Acoustics ProSeries 10.5LF. I haven't run subs since the early 90's. Just putting together some old audio parts I had laying around for years. I just needed a good enclosure for a 10"

For 60W, this thing bumps pretty darn hard, but Linear Power amps are hard core old school amps. It is loud enough to be uncomfortable to listen at high volume. When its really pounding hard, stuff is rattling and buzzing on the car. I'd say it rocks for an older dude's system...I'm 43 and this takes me back 20+ years. I've played some Pyromania on it this morning, and it was awesome. Can feel the base pounding through my chest.

Spent a lot of time searching for a box to go in the spare tire well because I wanted to keep my trunk clear of prying eyes. I like stealth mode. I can always just throw in the spare tire in the hatch if I travel for any distance. This box is really ideal for 944's as it is very close in size to the guys who did the perfect 10 box.

Eric that Linear Power amp is probably a cheater amp. They were built for competition and under rated, so competitors could stay in low power class but still have great output. The old Phoenix Gold, Rockford Fosgate and a few other brands made these cheater amps, then it got to the point where their power ratings became a joke. I remember 1 amp claimed it put out only 2 x 1/4 watt, so could use as many as you want and compete in the lowest power class. In reality they put out hundreds of watts, and could drive all the speakers in the system with ease. These cheater amps are the opposite of the cheap amps you see now, that make massive power claims but go no where near their claimed rating. Anyway I doubt your amp really puts out just 60Watts (great amp BTW)

Not the slightest bit. Maybe the capacitor does do something and isn't just a myth...

I still have yet to run my system with the ac or heat turned on (neither work currently) with the lights at the same time... Since our cooling fans each draw 25 amps from the alternator I'm a little scared to find out once I turn on that ac cooling fan

Btw, my friend's 84 fiero with a huge sub in the spare tire well has quite the light dimmage. I tell him he should be worried but nahhhh

I have been curious about using the spare tire well for a sub.
Can the carpet remain in place and it still sound OK? I like the idea that it cannot be seen.
Pardon my ignorance on this....never had a sub in my car before.

Putting carpet over the sub will make the sound very dull and flat sounding.

Especially with the thicker pile in the 944/968.
I really wouldn't recommend it.
