Where the H... is the engine serial number on my '87 924S
According to the owners manual, Haynes manual and factory manuel the engine serial number is supposted to be either on the right side near the rear of the engine just above the exhaust (Nothing there) or on the bell housing just aft of the oil filler pipe. On the bell housing I found the model number M44/07 but I don't see any serial number. Is it maybe to the right or left of the model number? Not easy to see in there given the tubes and wires...
Also... I am in the process of changing the belts and I have almost everything pulled off the front of the engine and there is a lot of oil that seems to be coming from the upper balance shaft housing, not the seal but the joint of the long balance shaft housing. I haven't found any gasket kit for that so am I right in assuming that one uses a sealant like Curil-T Sealant on the mating services?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.
Also... It's not on the bell housing but on the block side right next to the bellhousing. It will say M44/07 43Hxxxxx. If you have an auto trans you will have 43H6xxxx and if you don't have an auto tensioner you will have one below 43H01919 or 43H60384. That way you can tell if it's probably the original engine.
