AOS Seals

AOS Seals
after doing some searching and reading, I think I am going to try replace the AOS seals and see if that is causing my oil leak problems.
I have looked at a few of the aos threads, but none really give a straight answer.
I also haven't seen a walkthrough on clarks garage
does any one have a step by step video or write up on this?
I am doing this on my 1988 non turbo, the less things i have to take apart the better :P
Thank You!

IIRC.... pull the airbox, disconnect the line from the top of the AOS, remove the 3(or is it 2) mounting bolts, and the AOS should come right off... the "seals" are 2 o rings.. one on teh top port, one on the bottom...
install is reverse of removal..
Might take some creative use of flexable joints to remove the bolts, but you should be able to pull it off without pulling the intake!

I suggest you gunk and spray the side of the engine to make sure no dirt gets into the holes. There is also a ground lug on the firewall to the right of the AOS that should be checked if possible while you have easy access to it. Personally, I'd pull the intake, reseal the injectors (or send them to witch hunter for rebuild) but that's just me.

+1 pull the intake, it will make your life a lot easier. WYIT clean the IAS, replace the vacuum hoses, clean the injectors. Addition things to buy with your AOS seals are intake gaskets, vacuum hose, top AOS hose and clamps, oil filler cap seal.
Intake removal on Clarks. AOS is just 3 bolts, easy job. GL

I'm going to be doing this (this weekend hopefully if parts arrive on time). I'm going to have the manifold and everything off though. I think it would be pretty tight with the manifold on there but probably do-able with the right elbows and extensions.

it's easy - esp on a non-turbo...take the intake off and look at it - it's pretty self-explanatory. I believe there's three bolts. The hardest part is getting the damn thing back on again...getting bolts to line-up, etc... Also, don't freak out when you look into the opening where the AOS connects to the block. The metal is very rough in the there - I thought there was something wrong - and perhaps even a chunk of aluminum floating around in my block...but I posted a pic of it and several folks said that it's supposed to be that way.
As mentioned, clean the big ground that connects to your starter/battery on the bellhousing. You can't miss it. Oh, and don't forget to cover the opening adjacent to it so a nut or washer doesn't fall down into a spot where you REALLY don't want it to go.

not really. Make sure you put a little oil on the seal like you would your oil filter or injectors before seating them. Then, just check the integrity of the AOS...it's plastic...very tough plastic, but just check for cracks and clean it up and stick it back on. Easy job.
I found that AOS thread I was referring to in my earlier post: https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...deas-pics.html

Removing your manifold gives you a chance to get all the dirt, leaves, and anything else that may have fallen into those recesses under the intake manifold. You can also get a little more fancy, if that's important to you, and paint some things. I did that on mine and I'll show you a couple of pics of what I'm talking about. Enjoy the process.

...note that I'd check with customs prior to trying to ship injectors over the US border...I'm guessing that they'll have a real problem with that. try to source an injector servicer in BC. That's what I found here anyway. GL (the hole one of the posters said to cover is to inspect the clutch...DON'T drop anything in there!)

Got mine from pelican. The bottom ones are a bit bigger than the top ones. So you have to order two different sets.
Oh, and I would not attempt this with the intake on. I took mine off the other day. I think it would have been damn near impossible with the intake still on there. You would have to get the bottom bolt from under the car probably. More so you can see what you're doing.
