Galvanized coatings aren't relevant to painted surfaces, only exposed to the elements. My car will include removal of headlights, quarter windows, sunroof, lifting the edges of the windshield grommet, Bumpers, rear hatch, sanding, priming and painting, clear coat (metallic) and final buffing to gloss. I'll get back on this tomorrow. Funny how you can spend more on maintenance and cosmetics than the original purchase price of the car.

Seems to me the couple of 944s I've had/have has the factory acrylic enamel based paint and has a hint of the orange peel look when super clean!

If its already had one repaint, a high-end shop may insist on stripping it, especially if there is any adhesion or other failures of the substrates. Sanding/sealer/color/clear is going to result in a really thick total thickness. In other words, a shop that does it for $2500 might not be the best strategy if you're going to keep the car.

As to clear or SS, I went clear. If these cars were collectible, any type of repaint would hurt the value, but they aren't. I chose to use a better performing, easier to maintain finish.

Let us know what you decide.

And yet we always think that new cars are priced too high

Did you end up getting your car refinished? What kind of quotes did you get? I'm embarking on this little odyssey as well and am expecting the first quote today.

I just got mine back cost me $2000.00 base coat clear coat. Looks pretty good some body work not a $5000.00 dollar job but for a car that is still only worth around $5000.00 why pay $5000.00 for a paint job. Everyone that see it ask's me if I got a new car!

Sorry, I am just seeing this...I don't have the info with me. But it was a small, one man shop in Tampa not too far from the hard rock casino. His name is Dave fey.

I just got the first estimate on my respray, $3500-4000. That includes removing the door handles, mirrors and other removable parts, minor dent repairs to door dings, sanding, repriming and sealing where needed/required, basecoat, clearcoat and polishing. Oh replacing the sunroof seal, stoneguards, rear Porsche decal and hood emblem. They also said it would take 10 days at a minimum.

If you remove most of the trim yourself and do some sanding you could probably save yourself a few thousand.
