Default Rubber Line Off Coolant Reservoir Neck?

I've noticed a few drops of clear liquid...it's not P/S, brake fluid (they are colored) or oil - so it has to be coolant.

I started nosing around under the car and found a small diameter rubber tube that just drained out. I chased it up and it's the small hose that connects to the neck of the coolant reservoir where the cap screws on. I'm assuming it's for extreme overflow so that the coolant has somewhere to go if it overheats - but just curious if it's supposed to be that way.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

The hose only connects at the expansion tank, other end just dumps out. Usually if you get coolant out of it either the car overheated or the cap on the expansion tank is bad. Either weak spring or a bad gasket.

A bad head gasket can also cause combustion gasses to enter the coolant and will cause the expansion tank to bubble. Go for the easy stuff first - a new cap is quick, and see if that solves the problem. If it doesn't, you'll have to dig deeper...

...yeah, I've blown a HG before in this car...I know what that looks like. My car runs great so perhaps it's the cap or the coolant level is to high...I think I have it right at the max line.

I'll replace the cap - I don't think it's the original and it 'feels' OK, but probably should replace anyway.

Anyone have any suggestions there?

The first sign of my blown head gasket was combustion gas bubbling up through my coolant reservoir. A few weeks later I started to see oil droplets in the coolant. A few weeks after that I started to get steam out of the tailpipe... the car ran fine until the steam started. I never had milky oil.

Replacing the cap is the obvious first step... Duh. OEM Behr only. Stant just doesn't look right under the hood of a Porsche.
