Mine broke. At the end inside the car, thankfully, so I could still open the hood.

Is there any 'trick' to replacing it?

I assume I just jam the new one through the firewall and try to make it follow the path it is supposed to.

Here is a picture of the only place where the cable is clamped down (clamp in center on left--it also holds an expansion tank hose).
