Ever figure this out? There is a check valve to prevent fuel from draining back into the tank (hot start valve?) If the fuel drains back, it could be difficult to start.

I just picked up a 1980 924 2L non turbo. It has a ruff time starting, it keeps quitting, abt 3 or 4 times then it will run. I only drove it about 1 km but I couldn't get it to go. It was like it was starving yet just sitting and revving it is fine. I don't have any manuals for this car, I would like to get it running better before I paint it.
Where should I start checking for issues guy's?
Thanks

I would start with the temp sensor...but check the wiring under the boot insulation behind the plug...i chased this problem for years, and it was the wiring at the plug which was shorting out....hard cold start, would start fine when warm.

Thanks Pete
Today I disconnected all the electrical connections I could find, cleaned, greased and checked. Then I started the car, no difference, start stop, start stop till finally it will stay running but will not respond well to accelerating for about 2 min. Then it seamed fine, I revved it a couple of times then looked underneath just to look and I noticed the exhaust from the manifold back glowing red, really red. I panicked and shut it off, cleaned my pants and said a few chosen words. I am lost on where to go next.
Thank you

You probably are also running rich, which would plug the cat. Check the wiring inside the boots on the temperature sensors, coolant and the air temp sensor under the AFM.
