Default Picked up a third turbo....

So I have been on a car buying and selling spree. Two months ago I had a 87 BMW 535is as a daily driver, and a project car in the form of a 83 911 SC.

As for this morning I have a 86 951, a 87 951, and now a 97 850R Wagon, thats right the new turbo is a Volvo (family life is quickly approaching so having something practical was important). If the 951 shooting brake cars were available or easy to replicate I would have gone that way, but alas they are not.

Side note, the 86 951 will be for sale soon (but I will be willing to take a partial trade on a 924S).

Pictures of the wagon:

Nice, now we both have Volvo Turbo wagons.

BTW, where is the R front bumper????

Very cool car and probably the coolest wagon ever made.

Richard,

The R bumper was damaged, and the orevious owner replaced it with the standard 850 bumper because they are much easier to find . It is a shame, but it helped the purchase price be a bit lower. I will be searching ebay and the volvo forums trying to find one so I can complete the look of the car.

Very cool Ian. Again, always been a favorite of mine. I think you really enjoy. I love my 940 Turbo Wagon and all my other volvos before 5 in total now.

Trading one of the 951s, for a 924S plus cash. I had another thread about building a 924 GTS tribute, and well it seems that starting with a 924S is the best way to go.

The 850R would be the ONLY car which would make me reconsider my family having sworn off Volvos.

I loved them then and I love them now. -Fifteen years of utter drudgery in an underpowered 940 (B230... NON turbo!) sedan is difficult to forget, and the sheer incompetence of the local dealership was another issue... but give me a maintained 850R, and I'd forgive and dismiss everything.

I watched them race the wagons in the BTCC in the early/mid 90's. -Lovely.

My late father always wanted a 'Volvo Estate'. -I always loved turbos... THIS is how I could be happy and still honor his memory.

VW, I had 10 years in a non turbo 940, By far my favorite car (also the slowest), wonderfully bullet proof and drove beautifully.

They were pricy back in 1997, I have the original sticker and it came in at $40k. That is within a few hundred dollars of a BMW M3 from the same year. But thankfully they didn't do a very good job of holding their values (M3 or 850) and now we can find bargains shopping for them today. I am only two days into driving the 850 to work, and I am very happy with the purchase, sure there are some little things that need to be addressed but it is nicer to drive than my wife's new Jetta.
