968 hatch repair help needed
I picked up a 968 hatch this weekend. My original hatch was delaminating and a repair would mean the car could not be driven while this was being done and what if something unspeakable happened such as the glass shattering.
The ebay ad was clear that the side trim pieces will need to be reglued. So my question is what is the correct type of bonding glue/epoxy to use. I picked this epoxy up tonight at the Auto Zone and was going to go for it but wanted to make sure before I would possibly make the situation go from bad to worse if there was any better choice or this was fine. I have a car show next Saturday and will be trying to fix and install before it.
Also included some pictures of the hatch and yes it is now sitting on the dining room table.

I do not think the epoxy will hold for long and you will be redoing the repair.
Usually 3M products are advised:
Bill Dunster Comments: Hi I am a PPG industries automotive coatings employee. My sons rear hatch has been rebuilt recently. 3m makes a primer and urethane that will bod to glass. Silicone has an acidic property that will corrode aluminum and steeldont use to reseal your windshield either it will rust the metal the part numbers for the 3m is 08609 window weld urethane and 08681 primer. it will run you around $50.00 in materials but is the reccomended products from 3m. Happy hatch rebuilding!

John you are always helpful as usual.
In this case to make sure I was clear I am not trying to fix delamination of the glass and frame on the 968 hatch. I am trying to re-glue the trim pieces. They do not hold any weight of any kind they just sit on the edge and look pretty. This is the picture. I will try a different auto supply store tomorrow to see if they have any 3M epoxy before I open this up and try it.
I did a search and nothing came up with anyone re-glueing the 968 trim and what they used. This trim is very different than the trim on my 87 944 hatch which I believe is a closed cell foam. The trim on the 968 seems to be a regular plastic material.

I remebered that I had some 3M window weld left over from when I took the Black 944 apart for the painter and used it to seal the rear lights to the car when I reinstalled them.
I just finished cleaning all the old adhesive off and cleaning one entire edge of the hatch and just reinstalled the trim using the 3M window weld and put clamps on it for now. It looks good so far.
Tomorrow night I will do the other side. I will also take some pics during the process and when finished.
