Awesome replies with a lot of helpful info . Primary use will be street. Plan is to autocross to hone my driving skills (if I happen to win that would be a plus) & to have fun.
This comment stuck out to me. Since this will be a second car, I would like to treat it as a hobby. There will be mods, lol.
If you may want to tinker around the Turbo is the only way to go.

I started with an 87 NA and restored it to near show condition. Tons of fun to drive, and just enough car for the boonies I live in. But.....it wasn't a turbo and had to have one of those too which I just purchased. Now I know why.
Each car has it's advantages, and for me, there will always be a place for each car. I say start with what you can afford and build up to it. I've never regretted owning this NA, and neither will you, but I'll bet it won't be long before the 951 bug comes swooping in on ya!!

It's simple really, it all depends on how much you want to spend. Trust me, you can get a speeding ticket in no time with a NA.
NA: Cheaper to purchase, cheaper to maintain, more reliable, blast to drive, looks great, puts a grin on your face
Turbo: More expensive to purchase, more expensive to maintain, less reliable, more power, looks better, puts a bigger grin on your face once the boost hits

Just get a Base 944na.
They are Inexpensive, Fun to Drive, Cheaper to Maintain, Easier to Work On, and plus after you Master Driving and Maintaining the 944na you'll be ready to Buy, Own, Maintain, and Operate a 944Turbo!
-Can you Work on a Car? (The first trip to a mechanic will be half the cars value)
-Have you Driven a Rear Wheel Drive sports car? (When Driving hard: I get the Back end of my 944na Sideways a lot; a thing Turbos can do regularly)
-Do you have a few thousand dollars above the purchase price available for repairs? (I have had my car for 2 years, and bought at least $5,000 in parts; granted i am obsessed with fixing everything.. But Clutch/Waterpump = $2k in necessary parts)
Either way, hope to see you around! Great Cars, Great Community, and Great Learning Experience!

Best to just spend lots of time looking and find one with good maintenance records. Joining PAC is also a good step, as there are lots of knowledgeable members there as well willing to help.

TLR but get the turbo. I have a 944S and a 951S and there's no comparison. Yeah, the 44S is lighter to drive in traffic but the turbo is just so much more...substantial.
