My personal belief is that this whole belt tension matter has been blown out of proportion. I just did the twist method on mine, and honestly I have never re-tension the belt..

It has been over a year, and my car has blown up yet! ha ha

I will admit I was a little nervous.. but being a virgin of anything = nervousness..
but just like losing you virginity, you realize "Wow, that wasn't really that big of a deal, and now i can't wait to do it again!" HA HA

Yeah his new place. And No this will be my first time meeting him, or any other rennlist member for that matter. I'm really looking forward to it.

Something missing?

There she is...

Looks like the top cam seal is leaking, the crank seal looks new.
I'm not going to mention what happened to the timing back cover...
If it would stop raining off and on I would be done already.

Like when you find out how easy it is to install a car stereo and then you're pissed for paying someone $50 to do it.

Jeff, I'll be doing mine sometime this winter. If you want to come down and help.

You could have avoided whatever happened you your rear timing cover by pulling the balance shaft pulleys. It really makes things a lot easier, and the tool to pull them also retracts the spring tensioner. Well worth the $50.

New pump is installed, used some good ol' Permatex Ultra Copper... I will be buying some engine degrease spray tomorrow to get off all the gunk that is built up on the front of the engine.

Also the reason I murdered the timing cover was because I couldn't get the balance shaft pulleys off nor the gear on the crank. I wanted to run without them anyway so during this predicament it gave me a reason. I will need to make a pan to go underneath the car to enure rocks and such don't go near my belts.

Also found out all my rollers are good and actually look new... except for my timing belt tension roller that puppy is shot the back seal on the bearing is open and looks pretty dry inside. I think it's the original one from what I can tell. Is there a way to change the bearings in these suckers? It seems to have a snap ring on it.

Once I find a replacement I will be done quickly, the rain has really messed up my schedule as well as this bearing but at least it was caught before something serious happened.

Buy a new roller, if that one seizes up it can cascade into a timing belt failure and you really don't want that.

I did the WP/TB/BB service a few weeks ago on my 944s and every single roller had problems. Well worth the $$ to replace them. I just did the belts again yesterday because of a leaking front crank seal :P

86 951: This service is easy so long as you have the balance shaft pulley tool and a flywheel lock. I've had these tools for 3 years now and have had to use them 4 times between my 2 porsches. Dad used them for his S2 as well. Super super worth it. Don't be scared to do the service! and don't forget to replace the o-ring and front crank seal while you have it apart. They are cheap and then you won't have to tear it all down when the seal starts leaking (if it wasn't already).

I ordered a new timing tensioner roller, it should be in tomorrow and then I can get this job finished.

well guys the new belts and pump is in I'm just making my final adjustments before starting her up. Honestly the belts were actually very easy, I think they seem to intimidating because of the interference engine concept.

I had cranked that puppy a few complete rotations and it seems just like it was before I took the old belts off... I've noticed that the crank spins easier sometimes during the rotations than others I'm assuming it's because as the engine is stroking up it takes more effort since I am moving them by hand upward and when it's on the down stroke it's easier of course since the pistons are going down. Any thoughts?
