Some rear interior questions
So I bought an 87 944T about 2.5 weeks ago and have some questions. When I open up the back hatch and look inside, there is a space for a spare tire, but no metal bracket to hold it in. Where might I find this piece, ebay?
Also, there is a space to the left and right sides in the wheel wells that is basically empty when I pull the carpet back. is this normal? what goes there? seems strange that there is nothing underneath there but carpet goes over it.
anyone have any pictures, if so that would really help!

Normal. I put oil and a couple 2 liter bottles with water in them those holes. That is on my street car of course. The other side has some tools just in case. Any strangly no pictures of that area.

The foam backing does a good job of keeping it up along with the edge of the carpet that covers the quarters from the hatch to the floor level. I stuffed a KLA subwoofer box in one of them and the other carries my jumper cables, oil and such.

Travis has the tire hold-down thingy for $5 here:

Good seller, half the cost of the eBay nonsense.

Here us an 87 924 rear end with the hatch carpet removed (doing a race car build so stripping parts). Standard for all 924/944/951/968 tubs.

I guess I am missing the foam then. It just seems floppy *the carpet* and like there is a lot of space under there. I cant put things on top of that carpet area or it caves in. Maybe I can make something makeshift to hold it up better?

Mines kinda floppy too. I have an amp hanging on the right, above the hole, and a sub box over the left hole, so it doesn't bother me.

Well one way to use that space in the wheels wells is do this, install a set of extra speakers in them.

The 83-85 cars use a wood plate under the carpet to provide support. The 85.5 and later cars use thick foam to do the same job. I like it as it gives me places to put stuff that is not in the way, not visible and pretty secure from flopping around.
