the only other roll bar that i know of that is readily available is by autopower. there are pros and cons to both. the rennline bolts right in with no modification but some view it as nothing more than a glorified harness bar. the autopower bar has a more traditional configuration that requires drilling holes through the floor and wheel wells. i would consider it a true "roll bar" but some have questioned the strength of its mounting points. keep in mind that neither will be as safe as a cage on the track.

personally, i went with an autopower bar. i went this route because i felt it gave me a secure place to mount harnesses and should provide a degree of protection in a roll over. it could also serve a the starting point for a full cage if the car ever becomes a track rat.

I have been searching a bit more and I cant find exactly what I want. I wish I need how to weld better. I want a 4 point bar that goes into the trunk. I drew some pictures of the kind of cage/ bar I would like.

I've seen full cages like this but not a roll bar. Keep in mind a a setup like this will make the hatch area hard to use. I would at least want the ability to put the roof panel in the back.

I don't have any pictures of the bar itself but this will give you an idea:

it is an autopower.

The stock seats would go all the way back with no issue.

Know anyone who might know anyone at the local welding class? You know, you buy the material and they do the work?

You could always use this as an excuse to improve your own welding skills. I say this because I am still learning, and every welding project I do makes me a little better.

I have a harness bar from Fizer racing in my 968. It mounts like the autopower bar; on the floor and to the wheel wells. Nice large mounting plates with heavy back-up plates to bolt through to. It's one piece and welded together (unlike the autopower). Even with both seats out, it was a bit of a job to get it in place, but I managed. The folks down at Fizer were great to deal with and they know 944's in and out. I'm sure if you wanted to do something with longer rear braces they could work with you. There would have to be some welding involved if you did that though.

There are some other options out there. I had this made by a relative of a RLer who is a professional chassis builder. He did a great job and offered plenty of options. He can build it however you want it. Best of all he knew some guys in my area and they delivered it to me for gas money. Send me a PM if you want his contact info.

the only problem I see with it is that it seems to bolt more toward the center of the rear foot wells as apposed to the outside, thought I may be wrong.

it does look that way. the autopower bar attaches to the floor in the very corner where the floor is the strongest.

i do really like how the fizer appears to bolt to the wheel well by the shock mount. i had thought about adding a shock reinforcement to my autopower unit.

It boltsthrought the floor right in the corner of the footwell. I went right through the carpet without any problems.
