Slap on a new belt and see what happens, you are not going to make it any worse.

I've helped out with four 944 Turbo's with broke timing belts. None of them suffered any damage including valves. Compression / leak-down were perfect.

My local import repair guru and 928 collector has been servicing import cars (specializing in German) since the 70's. He said he's never seen a 944 turbo break a belt and bend valves.

Yes it's possible due to combustion build-up with any engine, it's not the norm.

Thanks guys,

I will help him put a new belt on and see what happens, will definitely check the water pump, the loud squeaking sound could very well be from the water pump bearing.
