so i have been wanting to upgrade my mirrors to a more modern look the problem is; i dont just want to follow the areo mirror craze, i mean yes it is amazing how easy the install, and how well they work but i was thinking more along the lines of S2000 side mirrors, or hyundai tiburon mirrors to keep the semi squared off look but a smoother curve, plus they mount to the actual door just like the stock mirrors, anyone do this yet? any ideas into this frankenstien creation of mine?

I give it a "do it" so others will know if its worthwhile.
I gave myself a "don't do it" and jumped on the "aero craze" because of fit, finish, complete kit, affordable, minimum of hassle, OEM quality, and appearance. I can't think of any of these categories being exceeded, except for possibly affordability, and that wouldn't be by much, if any.

I posted a how to and the dims for the adapter brackets in "Nailed It" thread on Hybrids. The Tiburon mirrors look like they were designed for the 944 and if you are good with wiring, you can make the electrics work with the 944 controls. I modded them because they are vey aerodynamic and have a larger viewing surface as well.

Tiburon mirrors look a bit too tall to work well with the 944 lower profile. But give it a shot you can always tape it on before you go through the trouble of trying to permenatly attach it.

Just turn down (or grind) the steel cap-head bolt to 1/8" with a chamfer. They whistled at 120 and above until I did this. On my high speed runs, I turned them in as the safety mechanism is still incorporated into the mirror body. On the passenger side, I'm not sure if it was the drunk german or the factory door attachment bracket is molded at a more downward angle, so I just slotted the alloy bracket and welded it, it took about 1/8" IIRC
For my final look, My brackets resemble a Sesame Street #9.... But the dims are exact....
