"you are complaining about paint chip? buy a new unit."... " buy a spray can paint it yourself" were the responds.
Shaky product, shaky service - thanks for the heads-up. I have two Zims rebuilts that are almost 10 years old and still going....Bruce

I've had my rebuilt vertex pump on my car for two years now, with no problems so far. However, if I were to do it again, I wouldn't buy rebuilt from anyone. I had some overheating problems a couple months after I had the WP installed (I installed it in a cold season for Georgia, so it never really had to do any work till a couple months later) which we had thought were attributed to the quality of the WP. But I replaced the thermofan switch, and that took care of it.

With that said, I still don't trust the rebuild. If you still can, and at no additional charge, return it and just spend the money on one you know is quality.

Looks like it does. I would include that on the notes section when you buy it.

The picture of the rebuilt pump online includes the gasket.

Zims appears to be using the standard worldpac issued rebuilt pumps as they are using their exact worldpac part number (.jx, .ax, etc) Same pumps that you will find at pelican, paragon, etc.

Agree w/ all the above issues w/ the Vertex water pumps - ordered one half a dozen years ago and looked the same - painted on gasket surfaces, belt roller, over significant corrosion, etc = crap. Sent it back.

If I may clarify...

The letter exchange part numbers are directly from the Porsche Exchange Program. Roughly translated, part numbers ending in "00" were changed to an "X", part numbers ending in "01" would be a "AX" and so on. It's not 100% accurate due to supercessions, but that is the basic premise.

We have a company who builds "our" water pump cores for us. This helps us keep our quality to the highest standard. It is likely those guys sell to other companies, but I do not think WorldPac is one of them. I bought a pump from WorldPac recently and it was definitely done by someone else.

The reason "our" cores are important - We discovered several years ago that if the steel impeller contacts the water pump housing and removes material, it is difficult to get the proper coolant flow from that core. We occasionally receive water pump cores with this condition and must reject them. It is our belief this can contribute to (or cause) the "I just installed a rebuilt water pump and the car runs 3/4 hot" syndrome. This point is often debated amongst 944 water pump connoisseurs, but that is our position.

Thanks,

Kirk

Hey Kirk, you're up to nine posts now... go for 10!

Thanks for all your help with my odd-ball requests, by the way. I sure hope to drive this thing up to show you what the "updated" engine bay looks like one day in the not too distant future.
