Default Machine Shop Leads - NY / NJ / CT / PA

I was wondering if anyone knows of a decent machine shop in the NYC area - including Downstate NY, Long Island, NJ, Wester CT and Eastern PA - that can clean up a set of heads...resurface, replace several valve seals, and test the valves for leaks, etc.

While these are coming off a 928, this is one of those parts that someone with some experience on the 944 platform should be able to work on just as easily, so I'm reaching out in the hopes that someone here has had a good experience with a semi-local shop. Right now my best lead reputation wise is a muscle car shop in NJ. While I don't doubt their abilities, I'd feel more comfortable having someone who knows these heads and their particulars tackle the job.

Thanks for the help.
Dave

I use Automotive Precision Machine in Highland, NY. 845-691-8222

A very conscientious shop that has a history of doing 944 heads for me, for 944 Ecology and for others in the area.

Tell him Van referred you, and you might get even better service!

Not sure exactly what is local for you, but if you are on Long Island try Colvin Autoparts in Merrick, right off Sunrise Highway. They do good work here and are great guys.. one of the few mom and pop type auto places still around on Long Island. I have brought alot of parts to Jimmy (Porsche and non) and he does good work and is always reasonably priced.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the leads. I'll reach out to these guys to see what they can do, but it sounds like anyone of them should be able to take care of the heads on my car.

A friend of mine just gave me another good lead, check out Dave Williams of Williams Engine Service in Freeport NY. He is not far from that place Colvin i mentioned. My friend said he is a one man shop who builds and balances engines. He even has the Sunnen machine to bore the alusil blocks.

52 Mill Road
Freeport, NY 11520-4616
(516) 868-3745

Personally i would just bring it to whoever is closest. In my experience the 944 / 928 head really isnt anything special.

Jon, thanks for the additional lead...I missed it initially since I don't check the 944 forum regularly. Much appreciated - Dave
