Default Expansion Tanks Swelling

Hey guys,

My expansion tank is so swollen that the Expansion Tank Cap is actually touching the Hood! **update** it is actually not touching the hood anymore.. but definitely was yesterday...**

The Tank itself is very old looking (Yellowing, Not Clear at all), my question is:

Does this swelling happen simply with age?

or could it be a more serious issue?

-The 16lb Cap is new as of last year
-My temp all summer has run up to the 2nd line (late dash) but generally runs in the high-middle (194-212 degrees F) in traffic... Closer to 190F on the highway.

So anyway, my tank has always been swollen, but just recently i noticed it's touching the hood... Does this happen with age?

I have searched and couldn't find much on the Expansion Tanks Swelling topic.

Thanks guys

Mine has some light swelling so yes it is normal but not to the extent of yours! You should probably get a replacement tank soon.

Are you getting any bubbles of combustion pressure in the expansion tank, or do you have any signs of oil in the coolant? Just making sure it's not a weak head gasket.

Edit: Nevermind. Just realized that the car in your avitar isn't a Turbo.
