The OE tray insert is not cut from a sheet - it's a molded piece and has a finished edge. It's grippy enough to keep your phone from sliding around during normal driving.
And for the record, I still have the 968CS steering wheel and my shifter is not purple or phallically shaped.

Classic 9 (formally known as 928 Leather Shop) did my dash. That is the 928 defroster trim piece that they used to offer before they had the metal ones available. It requires cutting out the original defroster vents to install it and it was done by Classic 9. I prefer it over the metal one.
