Default Front wheel bearing seal orientation

The front wheel bearing seals I have for my 86 951 don't seem to be the same as those I seen elsewhere. There is only one metal "face" on mine. (others seem to be symmetrical with a metal face on each side). They fit perfectly in the hub but am I correct in assuming once installed, this face will be on the inboard side against the spindle? (the hollow side facing the bearing and hub)

I've put one on the car and it makes a squeaking sound where the rubber is touching the spindle which gave me pause. Should I put some grease on it?

here's a picture prior to install:

Thanks for the sanity check. Can't wait to get her back together.
