i think there is a place for a "new 944". porsche has discussed a "sub boxster" and the platform already exists. besides, audi already built the first 944. why not the second?

the audi tt (ie tts) is finally more than just a GTI with a pretty face and would serve as a perfect platform. turn the engine (2.0t w/ direct injection) the proper direction, ditch the awd, rake the windshield, lower the belt line, square off the shoulders, install a proper hatch, and add interior bits from the porsche bloodline, and drop a little weight by stripping options not necessary on a performance car.

it would be more than badge engineering without the cost of a ground up model. the cars would also suit different markets. the audi would have more features and amenities but the porsche could be sold at the same (or more) because it would be quicker, lighter, and it would wear the porsche badge.
