Default Fuel Injectors on an 86 944 n/a Assistance Please, Green Tops

I have an 86 944 n/a that I have pieced back together from the previous owner. I've done the maintenance stuff on it, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, fuel filter, timing and balance belts and I'm trying to get it back on the road.

I had to pick up a throttle body with the TP sensor and the Vane Air Meter or air flow meter or whatever it is called in this car as well off of ebay.

From what I have been able to figure out on this site, others and google is that it has Turbo injectors in it, likely causing what I perceive to be running rich at least at idle, I'm sure it's running rich all the time and I figure that will be a problem trying to get it on the road and through a VA Emissions Inspection.

Question is : The code stamped on the green top injectors on the car is 0280150803 with another 843 stamped above and to the right of that number, is that code in fact the code for the 951 Turbo Injectors. I have found some conflicting information but the majority of what I have found points to yes they are. I'm not sure what color the injectors are supposed to be but they are currently green tops, are the regular n/a injectors brown tops? black tops?

Next question is: Does anyone have a set of n/a injectors for an 86 944 n/a that they would be willing to trade, I'm tight on cash but I would think the turbo injectors would be worth as much if not more than the n/a injectors, I'm trying to not spend any more money right now and I'm not looking to make money either. Replacing a set of injectors appears to be really expensive depending on where the parts are sourced from and I certainly don't have that kind of cash.

Thanks in advance for the responses.

Hi Glen,

I took a look at what the OEM Bosch injector should be---0-280-150-158 for your '86 (same as mine)
Neat Bosch parts page---Fill in as many blanks as possible. Your engine should be the M44 07/08
http://www.bosch-automotive-catalog....talog/products

Here is the most complete injector flow chart I have found to help you understande the #s:
http://www.justfuelinjectors.com/ser...flowchart/Page

You can compare the turbo injector flows to what you need.

OK, If you cannot find a set of used 0-280-150-158 injectors---which new are very expensive. Used injectors (-158) seem to be as cheap as any but may be hard to find-----

Try to match the flow data on a set you find that is close to the OEM #s. I do not know exactly what to tell you to get but many times members will use an interchange as long as it is close.

The tops of my injectors are "dark grey" in color

If you get used injectors, you will need new seals and hats and they should be cleaned DIY or professional.

GL
John

Thanks for all of that info, in using that info and more searching on here and other places I found a few things.

The original bosche number for the 86 944 n/a injector is as you stated (John) 0280150158 and can be confirmed on clarks garage page
http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/fuel-12.htm

In the following link it appears that the same injector is used in some of the years for the 3.2 Carrera someone did the leg work to come up with an alternative replacement with the same/similar flow numbers and a much cheaper cost for replacement, the initial part number for the alternative was 0280150364 which had a metal tip but they are no longer available, although another injector with the same flow numbers that has the plastic tip is still available that part number is 0280150360
https://rennlist.com/forums/911-foru...l-carrera.html

I bit the bullet and bought a set from the individual that was referenced in that other link
http://www.fuelinjector.citymaker.co...68/8727618.htm
Although I purchased them through him on ebay due to convenience with filling out the ordering info (same price including shipping).

I figured that with a used set of injectors that as you said (John) they should be cleaned and probably resealed etc and by the time that was all said and done I would likely have been approaching more than the 50-75% mark if not higher in terms of cost so the new ones make more sense. I just hope they work out the way that they are supposed to.

Now I just hope I can recoup some of the expense by selling the Turbo Injectors part number 0280150803 with the green tops I have that are currenly in this car and fully functional on ebay or something.

Thanks again for the info, I'll be sure to post my results after I get them installed.

The part numbers below are for searching purposes for others looking for this type of info, it's usually nice to find a thread with most of what you are looking for, sorry for the duplication if it is perceived that way, you may need to do some more research in regards to particular years that the part numbers are the same, the early 944 cars and later 944, 944S, 968 or turbos are different, exactly what years I do not know.
86 944 n/a Injector part number 0280150158, 0-280-150-158, 0 280 150 158
3.2 Carrera/944 n/a discontinued alt part # 0280150364, 0-280-150-364, 0 280 150 364
3.2 Carrera/944 n/a current alt part # 0280150360, 0-280-150-360, 0 280 150 360

not sure on the year but 944 Turbo Injector part number 0280150803, 0-280-150-803, 0 280 150 803

Great to hear.
I think you found a great interchange for the -158 and I will bookmark this page.

Injector cleaning sites are great if just a cleaning and reseal is needed but cost can get high is one injector is bad. Your decision was correct.

Thanks
John
