Are Bosch rebuilt starters and alternators much higher quality than the OEM rebuilt versions you get from Napa or O'Reilly?
I'm searching forum threads and seeing many cases of alternators that don't last long, regardless of brand. Are we better off ordering one brand versus another, or is it more chance?

Talked to a local electrical shop that formerly rebuilt alternators. They said there's one shop left in my metro-area that does rebuilds and their work is much better than most chain store rebuilds done in Mexico.
I called the rebuild shop and was told it would be around $125 for a Bosch alternator.
Quizzed my mechanic and he likes Napa rebuild parts but said to avoid other parts chain rebuild and only get the lifetime warranty Napa stuff.

I would rather, and have had, a good local rebuilder do mine, then end up with the cheapest of the cheap that most chain stores carry. If you are mechanical you can replace the brushes bushing / bearing and voltage regulater. Chances are you will get into it for about $50-$75 to do it yourself.
