I have a foil-faced one in my 86 turbo, seems to be working fine, and I don't have any concerns about it melting and it did came with self adhessive back. I bought it some time ago from Automotion now they don't have it anymore but 928 Motorsports has ither same one or very similar.

FWIW, by the time they started producing the S2, they had eliminated the hood lining. I've never missed the hood lining on my '90 S2, and can't see any reason an earlier car can't run just as well without them.

What is the 'real' purpose of the stuff? Fire shield, heat shield/paint protect, protect the bonnet from heat warp?
My 944 is without the pads too, the original ones dry rotted and crumbled away some time ago lol
