Default Spark Plug Pics - Any Analysis?

Are these spark plug pics demonstrable of any condition (good or bad) within the CC? I am a novice..

They are Bosch 4477 Platinum+4 Spark Plugs and all pics below are of Cyl#1 plug pulled today.

First pull since installing them 1000 miles ago upon purchase..
Current mileage ~ 230k+ on my 1988 944 8v n/a

After new OEM fuel and air filters ( as well as Weltmeister throttle cam), flat spot at 2800rpm uphill is nearly gone. Idle is stable at 840; coolant temp steady at 165F and oil burn is 3oz every 250 miles.

Thanks in advance!

Ya. The +4's suck. I would never recommend them on a 944. For some reason they do not work well with the 944 ignition system.

Also the cooler your engine runs the more they wear. I would put a stock thermostat and stock fan control in there and see if your burn and consumption is the same or gets better. Check your J boot for OIL sometime the AOS has issues.

Talking

BoschWR7DC+ (Bosch Super Plugs w/cooper core & yttrium added is what your car need).

Ah well... Based on Pelican's own quote on their 944 Parts page:
"Feel the difference with Bosch Platinum+4, guaranteed" ..
I went with the WGR7DQP (Plat+4) over the WR7DC+ (SuperPlus).
Both are Heat Range 7 but I will change out to the OEM yttrium/coppers next week.

Temp averages 185F not 165... sorry bad at F/C conversion.
So the gnarly charred oil burn around the bottom of the threading is a sign of oil entering the intake manifold and then burning at combustion?

Ahh, 185 is much better. It probably is, but you'll need to look at your intake boot to be sure. If it's all oily check the AOS and verify that it's good.

Having been a Bosch Rep for several years...
I will echo the collective net wisdom...

DO NOT run the +4's in your 944, ESPECIALLY with 230K on the clock!

3oz every 250 miles, is like 1 quart every 2600 miles, right? I thought Porsche recommended a rebuild when oil consumption hit 1 quart/1000-1500 miles. Are you thinking that oil consumption rate is a problem for a car that age? That doesn't seem bad to me.

Also I've run +4 Berus and have never had any issues, the ignition and engine run fine.

Appreciate all the feedback...
As an education nugget for us newbs can you elaborate on the detriment that plug causes on high mileage engines? (Not being snarky, i am truly interested in advancing knowlege) If both are heat range 7, what does the 4prong platinum do differently/badly?
Thanks as always.. mikey

P.S. Between my slight leak and my oil burn, the consumption rate thus far seems reasonable, eh?

In my experience...*take it for what it's worth*...

ANY blow by what so ever will foul the +4 lickity split!
The higher the mileage...the more chance of blow by.
