I'll try to take a picture later.
I was starting to clean up my manual rack tonight, and I noticed the tie rods had male threads, and the tie rod ends were female (the tie rod threads into the tie rod end). WTF... that's how PS tie rods are. But this is a manual rack.
I took off the boot to look at the inner joint, and also to see the ends of the rack itself where the tie rods attach to the rack. Sure enough, the inner tie rods are of the manual type. So the only thing I can possibly think of to explain this is that someone popped the old tie rods out of the ball socket and kept the manual inner tie rod ends, then popped apart PS rods and stuck them in. Is that possible?

OK, I found out these tie rods are the "early" manual steering tie rods for the early offset. I.e., they were the first version, which was superseded by the version everyone always talks about (the female rod and male end).
I want this rack to work with late offset. The way I see it, I have two options. I can get male tie rod ends and attach them to my male tie rods using a long nut, or I can do what Van did and drill/tap the ends of this rack to accept PS tie rods (of any offset).
Which idea is best? Or maybe you have a better idea, and I'd love to hear it!

There are a few V8 hybriders that have the bolt-on solution that I discovered for the manual rack on late offset....
Moog EV-378.....$50 each
" EV-378 is used for a 100% bolt-on solution with Power rack outer ends to put the manual rack on late car offset........"

Holy best post all month, Batman! I really love the v8 crowd, you guys know what you're doin' and you always come up with the best ideas for these cars.
But the machinist quoted me $65 to put holes in the ends of my manual rack to accept PS tie rods... Tempting. In the end it's probably worth the investment to get new tie rods instead of using old ones.
