To Loctite, or not to Loctite...
That is the question. I'm in the middle of changing my waterpump, timing belts and rollers and resealing the front of the engine (944S2). The old water pump came off without a hitch. Now I'm installing the new one. Should I use Loctite and which one? Clarks said he only uses it on the nuts so as to not risk the threads in the block.
I've searched and searched but have not come up with an answer yet. Has anyone successfully installed a WP without Loctite and not have it come loose and leak?
Need opinions guys.....

Thanks to all for the responses - here's what I'm gonna do. No loctite on the bolts, loctite blue on the four nuts only. New gasket and proper torque values on all.

I guess Im not sure I understand why to avoid loctite on the bolts but not the studs. You can break the studs off at the block face just as easy as the bolts.
I might consider using loctite when installing new studs in the block - but would need to be very careful when/if ever removing them.
Ive used anti-seize to avoid corrosion on the bolts threads (dissimilar metals around water/coolant) on every water pump I have ever installed.
The only loctite I have ever used is on the flange nuts on the belt guide bar on the later/updated pumps.

Hi Joe,
I never used Loctite for water pumps. In contrast I had a lot of problems when I had to dismount pumps which other people fixed with Loctite before. You may easily break a bolt or stud. Details of changing the water pump on a S2 you may see in my video:

I'm with Jim, in the hundreds of pumps I have done, I always use a dab of antiseize on the bolts and studs and have never had an issue. All it takes is breaking one stud off and you'll understand why.

I put loctite just on the nuts because they are easy to apply heat to if needed. Also Clarke garage says that is what he does. Unless there is an issue with the water pump it will be many years before I need to touch it again since I only drive about 3k miles per year.
