no blower. What to check?
Well now that I repaired the battery box rot last night on to the next task. About the 3rd day I had my car the blower started working intermitantly. The next day it didn't work at all and hasn't since. It's been annoying with all this rain and humidity.
What things should I start checking. I checked fuses and messed with the relay. I found some threads about the switch that controls the blower motor speed on the motor its self but I didn't seem to have those symptoms.
Any ideas? I'd like to get this working to I can install my AC compressor and finally have AC in a car again.

Well I've never dealt with this problem but maybe I can point you in the right direction.
I think there are resistors for the blower motor. As in large hefty resistors. Maybe they're the ones right above/behind the battery tray? Maybe check them out and make sure they're ok.
Have you checked to see if you are getting voltage at the blower motor plug? I think the plug is near the driver side of the blower assembly. Lift up that plastic cowling cover to get to it.
I assume you have already checked out clarks garage?
Don't trust your climate control unit - they do fail.
Sorry I can't be more helpful. Good luck.

If the fan works on highest speed only then it's probably the fan resistors. Maybe a little to the right of the steering wheel, under the thin plastic cover on the fire wall. I cut through that cover with a box knife (there's a ~1" x ~3" bulge where the resistor pack is). You can pull the pack, jam some toothpicks into the contacts so they are held open and soak the whole thing in white vinegar to clean the contacts.
Did mine years ago and no more trouble.

it was working fine at all speeds. then one day no matter the speed it would turn on and off by itself and then the day after that, notta. I'll start checking to make sure it's gettng power. At that same point could I jumper the motor at 12V there also and see if the blower motor is still working?

Yeah, if you jumper it and it works, then you know the problem is not the blower itself.
And it's "nada", which is Spanish for "nothing".

Here is a pic of the resistor:
Don't cut the cover to get at it. Pull up the rubber gasket on the front edge and lift the cover up. Use a very short screw driver to undo the 2 screws.
We had this exact issue and it was a combo of the resistor and the relay. Replaced both and all is well in blower land!

I would bet its the resistor. I had to clean mine as well. I just let it sit in vinegar over night to clean it. Let it sit out on a paper towel for a while to let it air dry. Put it back in and BAM it worked great.

got it out. Soaked for a few hours and scubbed with a toothbrush. I guess my question is, can I test it without screwing it back in? Doesn't seem like it would screw things up but I've been wrong before.

I didn't really pay attention. I realized the guy I got the compressor from forgot to include the adjustment rod so it's a moot point until I get that and the big *** bolt that attaches the compressor to the block. You find anyone to charge R12?
