Electrical or mechanical Oil Temp gauge ?
Want to add an oil temp gauge in the A-pillar pod but I am not familiar with the connections. Would it be any easier to route the copper line through the firewall and behind the pillar or would the electrical connections be easier?
Anyone have any experience with this or opinions on whether the mechanical setup is reasonably accurate? Looking at the Autometer Z-Series gauges.
Many thanks.

+1 for electrical.
If the sensing tube breaks on the mechanical style, typically the gauge would need to be replaced. Routing wires will be much easier, and less prone to damage while doing so.

Electrical is easy. I tapped out my oil drain plug and put the sensor in there. You have to remove the nut & wire to change oil. It's easier than pulling the oil pan so you can properly drill & tap without getting aluminum shavings trapped in the engine.
