Default tire choices for club sport wheels

I picked up some club sports to replace the Fuchs that a PO put on my 89 coupe. Now I'm stuck buying new tires cause the 205/225 combo won't work with my new 7/9" wide wheel combo. Sucks cause the PO put brand new tires on. I was thinking about Bridgestone 960s. What tires are out there for this width combo?

Tirerack says the Dunlop Direzza's in 225/50-16 will work on a 9 inch rim, but I wonder if that's a typo since none of the other brands go above 8 inch wheels on that width.

For the other poster - 225/50-16's all around on the 7 inch clubsports should be good. I ran 225 all around on my early car, although he 924 might have fender clearance problems. You could go with the 205/55-16's if that's an issue.

Toyo Proxes T1R or Fuzion ZRi are just about what's left in stock 951S sizes of 225/50 and 245/45. The 245/45 is the problem...

I have the Fuzion tires and they're OK, grip well but are noisier than I wanted.

thirdgen I don't know how wide you can go on the front of a 924S without massaging, but I have 205/55/16's on my 931 on 6's and 7's and they fit fine.

figure I'm going to have to go with a 245/50 or maybe a 255 something.

ive got about 3 degrees of negative camber. the hope is to run 225s. i wish i could do a test fit.

edit:
i dont want to thread jack, but i am running 205s on 6.5 et55 cayman wheels with 7mm spacers for an effective et of 48. the 7in clubsports have a 65mm et. if my calculations are correct this will put the face 10 further in the fender. i would think this is enough fender clearance for 225s. the question is will i have enough room on the inside. with the clubsports i will loose 26mm over stock (plus the tire)

This is my 931 with 205/55/16 tires on Boxster 6's and 7's. The narrower tire fits the 7" rim just fine.

That much camber is a good thing, it'll help with the fender clearance. For what it's worth, I ran max camber on my 944 with the stock adjustments; not quite 3 degrees; more like 2 front, 2.5 rear. The car was lowered 1.5 inches all around (225# weltmiester lowering springs in front with 30mm T-bars in back indexed down to level the car)
I did not have any clearance issues on the inside with the 225's all around on the original 7x15 inch wheels (I think they were 7's all around, but might have been something like 6.5/7.5 staggered)
I later bought some 7/9 x 16 fuchs replicas and went to the Toyo T1r's at 225/45-16 in front and 245/40-16 in back. Here's a pic with the 16's; the 245's tuck inside with just a bit of clearance. Keep in mind that's a 20mm wider tire on a wheel that's 2 inches wider that what you're thinking for your 924.

Either those or the Toyo T1R's, but the Toyos are even more than the Bridgestones.
I'm also seeing the Fusion ZRi's are available in 245/45-16 and 225/50-16; those are more reasonable (around $450+shipping at tires-easy.com) I don't have any experience with those, but they're made by Bridgestone.

I'm in the same boat. I bought a set of club sports years ago, and I just kept the tires that came on them. 225 and 255. Yeah, they're pretty old tires. I guess I've just been waiting for better tire options but it's been at least 4 years, I guess I should just buy Fuzions.

We've put Fuzions on a few other cars - my dad's 993, my brother's GTI - it's a good tire for the price.

Well I dropped the hammer. Since this is going to be a daily driver I needed something that would do OK in the rain too. Soooooo, I dropped some money and went with the 225/50 and 245/50 Bridgestone RE960 Pole Positions. Interestingly enough the 245 is in stock but they're going to have to order the 225. I left the wheels with instructions to use stick on wheel weights.

What place are you having mount them? I had sears do mine a while back and they put stick on weights on the lip of the damn wheel. Needless to say I was really pissed about it.
