Default Tach Wiring Help

I installed an aftermarket tach and am getting strange signals. The tach moves up but then bounces around and drops to zero, shoots up etc. The tach is set to 4cyl, power and ground are good. The tach signal is coming from the DME tail, white wire with green tracer.

Is there another pick up point? Should I go right to the coil?

looks like you need to tap the green (incoming) wire rather than the grn/wt (outgoing) wire:
