Default Ok, where is the star gear for the e-brake adjustment?

Do you have to pull the castle nut off and then the rest of the hub off to get to it? I searched all around and could not locate it. The ebrake hasn't worked since I've had the car.

And if you do have to pull the castle nut off, is that cotter pin reusable?

If you line your wheel up in the rear just right, you should be able to access it with a screwdriver without removing anything.

I think I figured out the problem. There is a large hole on the hub (1/4" diameter maybe?) that has metal behind it. I think someone removed the hub at some point and didn't re-install it correctly. There are two other small holes that I can barely fit a flat head screw driver through. Those ones go all the way through but I don't think they are the right ones for making the adjustments. I can barely see through them if I put the light in one direction and my neck in another.

You want to use the large hole, watch the video I linked to, it will show you exactly what to look for. The two smaller holes are for the retaining screws that hold the rotor in place.

PS.. you may want to spray the area down really well with brake cleaner prior to trying adjustment, it makes thing s alot easier when you get it all really clean.

Yea I did some thread searching under parking brake instead of emergency brake and got a lot better answers to what I was looking for. The large hole doesn't go all the way through anymore. I guess the PO, or some PPO, put new rotors on and didn't line up the holes correctly. There aren't even any retaining screws in there right now. Those are AWOL.

That sucks... in the video I posted, it is for a 996, on the 944 the star bolt is at the top.

So if the large hole doesnt go all the way through, what is blocking it? I would use a center punch and see if it is just some debris buildup or something.

As for the screws, they are an M6 if I recall...

I'm not sure what the part is called, but it's the metal that the wheel studs are attached to. That is what is blocking the hole.

its the hub... you need to pull the rotor off and re-orientate it back on the hub properly

Yea...good times lol. I'm done for today. Time to eat dinner and drink beer. I'll finish it one of the nights after work this week.

LOL... it's not that bad... two bolts for the caliper, lift of, pull off rotor and put back on the right way... getting the wheel off is literally half way there

You don't have to remove the brake pads to remove the caliper?

What year is it?

On my 86 951, I had to break the brake line loose, but I could leave the pads intact to put the caliper back on...
