Default Ignition Wires?

Hi all,

I'm kind of in the middle of a big project, and I noticed that my ignition wires are not in the greatest shape. I'm also on a super tight budget. Anyone know of a place to get good ignition wires on the less expensive end of the spectrum?

thanks,

-Dave

Zim's?

EDIT:

Nevermind, Google found it for me. Suppose I should have tried that first. They're still a bit rich for the current state of my wallet

I have found one that has anything for 944/951 and they are outrageously overpriced and will not sell any components that get pulled with the engine separate. They're 3+hrs away from me too, and never seem to know what I'm talking about on the phone.

So basically, no. None that I've found.

Try here http://www.pelicanparts.com ( but be cautious of cheap wires specially for a 951).

Anyone try these?

I have Magnecor wires on my Alfa and they seem to be well-made wires, but I've heard mixed reviews. My only complaint with the ones on my Alfa is that they are bright blue and I wasn't given an option for color when I ordered them... but I think that's a problem with the vendor, not the manufacturer.

how broke and how handy are you? get a parts store set of wires for a random 80's chevy 350 and use four of them...trimming them to fit and reusing your current ends would run you less than $20 and an hour of your time.

Too bad you need a special crimping tool. I bought some bulk spark plug wire at O'Reilly auto parts and was going to do this, but once I got the ends off the wires I saw that they needed a speical beru end that has a screw tip on it. Tool is really expensive if wires are out of his reach.

^^^certainly doable, but you want the right type of wire. IIRC, it would be the carbon core...not the cheap wire core. Also, the beru ends have resistors in them and can be bad themselves. OHM them out with a multimeter to ensure the correct resistance...it might be stamped on the beru wire end...maybe 2k ohms?

Are the wires different lengths between the N/A and turbo?

I have a set off a N/A that are probably OK (no cracks, etc.).

I just replaced them because I didn't know how long they had been on the car and I was doing a complete tune-up.

If you can use them, you can have them for $20 shipped.

@ Crackership: How bad are your wires? With the engine running can you grab them and NOT get zapped?!?!

If so, just run them until you can afford new ones... Replacing worn used wires, with worn used wires seems like the definition of insanity to me...
