I guess I should start off with what pictures would help you guys better understand what is going on with the car?

I can take as many pictures as necessary I'm just wondering what would help determine the problem. I will try to get a video and possibly post it on a host site so that you can hear the motor running. I think this would be the best indication of understanding the missing and backfiring that is going on.

<iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/3jPs_9epbj0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

This is the video from youtube that I posted. If the above link doesn't work the video can be found at this address: http://youtu.be/3jPs_9epbj0

To give a brief discription.

To keep the motor running I have to keep the rpms above 800 Throughout the video I kept the Rpms around 1200-1500rpm. There was a peak in which i took the rpms up to 3000rpm.

I hate to free rev this motor but I want to give the best discription on what is going on with this engine. On another note it does rev slow and will not rev past 3500 to 4000. If let to idle it will stall out.

If there is any video or any pictures i can take for you guys to better help identify the causes please let me know.

Sounds terribly retarded to me. Your description of the RPMs seems very low, is it from the dash tach? If so it could indicate the speed sensor is only picking up the setscrew on the flywheel sporadically. Too much gap?

Yes according to the dash Tach. I did check the gap and it measured out fine. I glued a washer onto the sensor and sure enough it is gapped correctly.

I agree it sounds like the timing is off. I have checked the belt several times. I am leaning it has something to do with the computer or sensors. For some reason or another it is not sending the spark at the right time.

Ok here are the timing marks on the car. They are hard to see so I highlighted them in red. I also included a picture of the set screw on the flywheel. It appears to be in good condition and not damaged.

If the engine ran well before you pulled it, the "think horses not zebras" explanation is a bad connection somewhere. Computers don't go bad just sitting around.

Have you tested the idle stabilizer? If it's corroded/stuck it might be causing this erratic behavior.

I think your right about the bad connection somewhere. I am just lost on where to look anymore, along with what to test.

Hard to tell from video but sounds like not getting fuel, as in injectors.

I took off the fuel rail and turned over the car. The injectors put out a good spray.

Hi! I know it is a long time since this last thread was alive but I wonder if you finally fixed the problem? In any case I wanted to make a suggestion! My -85B 944 did the exakt same thing when I had an enourmus vacuum leak between the ISV and the intake manifold. The leak doesn't have to be there specifically but somewhere unmetered air is getting in to the engine. That popping sound is from a lean burn situation i believe
