The integrated Benz system used up through the mid 90s did leak, but where it attached to the block. I've replaced dozens of these seals. They do have a replaceable filter in the bottom of the resevoir when you take the big wing-nut(or big rubber grommet-headed nut) and lid off. The filter replacement is part of scheduled maintenance.
