Default Oil Cooler Disassembly

I'm resealing my oil cooler since I'm doing some other engine work and I can't figure out how to get the actually cooler out of the housing. I was following the clark's instructions and it doesn't say anything about how to take it out of the housing. The car's an '87 NA.

if you have the housing off of the car, and the oil pressure relief valve out, it's just stuck. Pull.

Agreed.

Just try wiggling it back and forth; but it should come right out.

I do not know how Rudeboy did his, but you can pull the exhaust header to get more room. Sure you need to spend more on 4 exhaust gaskets and 2 manifold flange gaskets.

The $50 OPRV late housing alignment tool is also required.

The "first time" to replace the gaskets is usually practice and will need to be redone if not careful.

Yup remove the exhaust for sure...

I wasted so much time trying to work around the exhaust; just too finally remove it! This job isn't too tough... Some of the bolts are just in akward spots; take your time.

"If it seems to hard, your doin it wrong!" <-- Re-think your position

Thanks guys I got it out and put the whole thing back together last night.

I'm in the middle of rebuilding the top end so the head is off which made it very easy but you'll need to remove the exhaust manifolds and maybe the PS pump for a little extra room if it's all you're doing.
