Default Fuel Return Line Problem

Can the rubber fuel return line that goes to the top of the sending unit be replaced without dropping tank? If you have been successful in this endeavor please elaborate. How do you get the old one out/new one in?

ya, cut a small peice of the panel that is over the tank for some access, you can then choose to cover your access hole with your carpet only , or put some sheet metal back over it. I will be doing this on my track car. and by the way, to drop the tank, you have to remove the transaxle! So that is why i choose to . And I think you mean top of the tank and not top of the sending unit.

Cutting the floor is not an option. Anyone else?

Yep, I did it. It's a bit of a pain and takes some patience, but it's possible. My return line was leaking up under the passenger rear wheel well. Once you have the carpet out take off the access panel, and just push off the return line. Tie some (could also pierce a small hole and feed the cord through the hole) cord to the line, and then pull the return line very slowly from under the wheel well. Now take your replacement line and heat it a little to give it a bend to help it go around the top of the tank when you feed it back up through. It's much much easier with two people though. It better to feed the line up, and use the string to guide it the line rather then pull it through. You will need someone at the top with some long nose pliers to help pull the line through once it's viable. Just be sure to push it through as far and as much as possible, because you can't just pull it through, it needs a good push. It's a royal PIA, but it worked for me.

DHC6 pretty much nailed it. I did the same thing, no need to drop the tank.
