968 engine with 49K miles for sale
The engine has 49K miles on it. The PO owns a European auto repair shop and purchased the car as a project with the intention of restoring it. He completely serviced the engine. Before moving on to the body work, he picked up a Boxster project and decided to sell the 968. I purchased the car and decided to part it out. Before parting the car, the motor ran fine. I have video of the engine running. Compression numbers were all within a few % of each others. Service items completed included:
A complete timing belt and variocam service (new belts, seals, pads)
New tensioner and rollers
New waterpump and alternator/AC belt tensioners
All new accessory belts
New timing chain
New water pump
New distributor cap and rotor
The parts total came to about $1K, I have the complete list of what parts were replaced.
Before parting the car, I had the opportunity to exercise the engine, and it ran great.
I'm offering the engine for $3000 or $3200 with the computers and wiring harness. I would prefer to sell locally, but will ship if the buyer makes all shipping arrangements.

968 engine
Hi Gary,
Just checking for an update on your engine. I'm in Connecticut, so I may be able to pick it up. Any idea how much it weighs?
How firm is the price?
This may be a silly inquiry. Right now I'm choosing to buy a 968 among several high mileage 968s and thinking about this engine as possible insurance.
Thanks,
Paul

Damn, I'm only about 45 minutes from you and believe that there was just an article about a 944 with a 968 transplant. If I knew anything about this or installing it, you could have my money!!!

I suspect there are a number of people here who could walk you through the transplant process, and I would be happy to take your money

Yes that blue 944 in Porsche Excellence is I presume the one your talking about, doing a 968 swap in a 944 is not all that difficult ,dozen of peoples has done them with sucess, do a search.Click on (Search) at the top of the forume page & enter "968 motor in a 944" this will give you a better idea off what is involve doing it.Is your car a late or early model?Personally I think this is the best bang for the buck and will choose that swap any days over a V8 or Turbo one.A 968 motor in your 944 even in stock form will get your ticker beating a little faster beleive me.#1-968 in early 83/944 #2-968 in a 924S #3-968 in a S2.

I'll be around most of the weekend. Just give me a heads up.
I haven't tried removing the other glass. I thought I would wait until we pull the windshield.
