I could DD a 924 at sea level but up here in the mountains it would be too damn slow. Im already down to 120hp up here!
I've been DDing my S for 2 years now and its treated me well. That said my $1200 car is now more like 6000.

I'd rather DD a 2.5L car, 924S or 944 - much better mileage, more torque, more modern, better build quality, better HVAC (defog actually will work, not to mention AC!).
I have a 2.0L Turbo for a summer DD ( awaiting rebuild)... so I know. And parts are getting rare, sadly...

It depends on what you're willing to start with quality wise. If you don't mind some dents and scratches you can get a 924S for ridiculously cheap. The cost comes when it breaks. I bought mine for $1000 and have about another $1000 into it. If it's ONLY going to be a DD, you could easily spend less than 2500 on a very passable car. I wouldn't go the regular 924 route. I've never driven one myself but everything I hear and read suggests that they are terribly underpowered. I definitely wouldn't suggest swapping a motor, way more work than it's worth when you could just buy an S.
I know it's a long way from Jersey, but there's a 924S in what looks to be good condition in Chicago for $1600. I've been eyeing it for a bit, but I think I'll stick to one...![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)

How late did they make the 924 with the 2.0? I thought after the early 80's it was just 924s's, I could be wring

924 til 82 in N America, 85 in Europe, 924S started in 86 worldwide.
For info on the 924 2.0 litre you need to go to 924Board.org. Rennlist is great, but the knowledge is heavy on the 2.5 engine, not the 2.0.

A 924 is a 30+ year old DD propsition
A 944 is a 20-25 year old DD proposition
imho, neither is ideal, esp. depending on climate. Also, while the 924 2.0 is a non-interference motor, it is less hp, less tq, likely only "equal" fuel mileage; some parts are more scarce; Many are 4spd manuals; less comfy ergonomics;

I love them, but be prepared to pay for maintenance.. either in cubic $$ or time!
