Default Amsoil Opnions? (ONLY AMSOIL)

I am thinking of switching my cars over to amsoil. I was curious if anyone on here has used it in their Porsche. Recently I have been running Castrol Syn Blend. I like it seems to do the job, but after reading about amsoil and they also make a high zinc oil seems like it might be a good choice for our engines?

Please keep this on the topic of amsoil not any other oil. THANKS.

Thoughts?

What is so special about Porsche motors that people worry about ZDDP or Zinc content so much?

I have used AMSOIL 20w50 Series 2000 Racing oil in my 944 spec car for 8 years. I like it alot despite it being expensive. The changed it a bit and it now listed as Dominator 15w50 racing oil.

However despite how much I like it in my race motor I do not use it in my Street 944 Turbo. I feel it is overkill for that car and not worth the extra expense. For my street car I use Valvoline VR1 20w50 conventional oil and have used for 10+ years.

I switched to Amsoil last fall when I put the SC on my race car. I used to run Amsoil exclusively in my race bikes and it worked well, so I thought that I would give it a try. No issue to date, which is good.

I don't use it in my street 968.

If you become a preferred customer, it is not as expensive. To me it is worth it and use their products in all my cars. This becomes a personal preference. Oil is like discussing religion... It can get complicated, as everyone has their opinion on the subject.

Thats all I ever used in the BMW (trans/diff/motor), I use the gear oil in the 951 but run 20W50 VR1 in the motor, as stated above I dont think its worth it for a street car.

Get the preferred account and the price drops quite a bit, its worth it if you make a couple orders a year.

I do just that. Given how often I change the oil on my race car I buy oil 4 gallons at time and in just one order the "preferred member" starts paying me back.

I have been thinking of switching the Porsche and Jeep over to it. Supposedly you can save a some change using amsoil if you do the long interval changes. I would most likely run 10w-40 year round then and change the filter twice. How much is it?

So the 15w50 is what you have been using? When did it change? Other people run that in the spec series or do most just stick with the tried/true VR1 20w50?

My incoming spec car doesnt have an oil cooler so Id like to run a quality synthetic oil in there until I can add one...

I have been using up my stock of 20w50. Last order I got was 15w50 and it will be going in the car for the April 2nd race. I have no issues with the change form 20w50 to 15w50 and most guys locally have been using it for a year now. (I have not been racing much in the last 6 months)

I run an oil cooler and alot of guys in Az run Amsoil. Personally I recommend AMSOIL racing or Redline Racing for a spec car. We run these cars hard at 4000-6000 rpm all day long . Number 2 bearings need lots of high quality oil to prevent issues. I used to run Mobil 1 15w50 and I would have a pressure loss at RPM on the track. Even at 6000 rpm oil pressure would drop to 3bar after 20 minutes on the track. With AMSOIL I keep pressure at 4 bar with hot oil. Even with oil cooler I can see oil temps at 250 as measured in bottom of the pad on 95F to 100F day in racing conditions. That is very hard on oil and I just want the extra protection. I have run VR1 in my street car, but I just don't think it is up to the job on the track especially in high heat.

I know some in 944 spec really like, but few of them run in Az with our heat.

I typically run 3 or 4 events on my oil. Some of that depends on how much run time I had and what that air temps are.

As for things like ZDDP... I have never even considerded it. My number 1 focus is in perserving the #2 bearings. Everything else is secondary as when a #2 spins you destroy a block. Replacing a cam or lifers is easy by comparison.

I only run Amsoil in all 4 of my cars. I used the 20w-50 racing oil in my ITB car, regular Amsoil 20w50 in my 914 and 911 and 5w-40 Euro for my Volvo and VW. When I ran "other" oil I used a half of qt. every 1,000 miles and now I use none for the entire season (I don't DE or AX the 911).

Amsoil seems like a good quality oil. I just don't know if I would reap the benefits of it. I currently run Castrol Semi Syn 10w-40 and I will most likely return to VR-1 20w50 in the summer. I like the idea of a full syn, but my engine leaks a little bit now so I don't know if it would be a good idea to use a full syn.

I run Amsoil syn. in my transaxle and I like it. Unfortunately it is harder to get the Amsoil Syn motor oil here so I still use Mobil 1.
