Default Rebuilding the center console

Ok so this will be boring stuff for most of you but I know alot of folks like to see pics so snapped a few during this process for kicks.

Started out with two consoles, each one with issues.

Took both completely apart. Here is a piece of PO thinking....

oh my hing broke on my console, no problem a few brass hinges will fix her right up!

Even I would not go this low.

After a good scrubbing repainted the brown console with black trim paint. Did the shift surround with black rubberized undercoating.

Remember the car will be white with red stripes and red fuch wheels. So I want to have a couple of red peices interior wise to kind of reflect that.

So when all finished I have a nice black console with a little red accent.

And a pile of left over parts.

Looks clean. Good job. Think you will have any issues with the paint chipping?

Thanks....don't think so. Used Rust-oleum fabric and vinyl flat. Sanded everything a little to ensure what will hopefully a good sticking surface.

The boot came with the parts car. Its base is not 944 but fits well between the console and the shift surround with a little help.

So far I have been happy with the fabric and vinyl paint. Just make sure you do proper prep, take your time, and do multiple lite coats. It even matches the stock black vinyl (at least in my '86) very close in my opinion.

That is what I was going to say. Or you must have a lot of flies.

I had mine recovered by a good friend of mine that does custom upholstery work. He did my dash with red stitching around the gauges and red stitching around the console. The seas are also being redone with a modern look, the door cards in a custom look, as well as the steering wheel and e-brake cover. He's a member on here, Bugshop, although I dont think he posts. He does damn fine work.... i'll post up some pics when it's all completed
