Default Removing fuel level sender-early car

I got the small bolts out and pulled it out but it's stuck at the bottom. I won't pull all the way through the top of the tank. I tried twisting it around thinking that there's a small key on the end of it that you have to line up with the hole, like there is on the top of it. No dice though.

Do I just to yank that bitch out hard? There shouldn't be anything attached to the bottom of it right?

Your early car should have the same fuel level sender as mine:

There is nothing at the bottom to catch on.

Yanking the bitch hard might cause a big boom (sparks)

Yea thats the right part. It feels like there is a lip on the bottom of it that is catching. I don't want to pull on it too hard and risk damaging it. The sender works fine, I'm just trying to replace the gasket.

Well I gave up on it for now and put it all back together. I'll fight that fight another day.

If your smelling gas its probably not the sending units seal, its the hoses that run on the top of the tank.

Its not a fun project to fix that particular problem. I did it last month but have to go back in as i screwed up the reassembly a little bit and it still pisses gas everywhere when its filled up It won't be nearly so bad the second time around however, i can get the transaxle out pretty quick now.
