Default Cruise Control Switch

I have a question about the cruise control switch on an early 944. Are the Cancel and Set switches always closed? The switch tests always closed until pressed for cancel and open until pressed for Set. It seems from the electrics schematics that they should both be closed until pressed. The Resume switch shows that it is open until pressed on the schematics, but it doesn't seem to want to work at all. Can anybody confirm if I'm reading the schematics correctly?

And also, how does the switch come apart? It seems like it should slide off the stalk but doesn't want to come out.

BUMP. I am wondering this as well. I think my computer is to blame, but my switch may be suspect as well. Hopefully someone responds to this.
