Default Tinted Car Pics

I would like to see some cars that are tinted. I am trying to decide what percent to get on my 951. I am leaning towards 25% all around or 30%. Please include the percentage you had it done in.

You might want to check your local laws on %. Most places will allow 35% on the driver and passenger windows, further back you can 20% ususally. Good luck finding a tinter to do the back glass. They hate the 944 hatch. It's mostly done in strips as the compound curves are real hard to stretch film over.

The limit here for the front is 35%. This place swore up and down that they could do the tint in one piece for the rear glass. I got a screaming deal on it. At World of Wheels they had a 50% offer, I asked to make sure they could do the back glass in one piece and they said they could So I am going to get it done.

I tinted mine myself a couple of years ago. I first tinted the back hatch area and the back side windows 20%. At night I could not see out the back at all and in the early morning and when it is dusk I could not see the state troopers coming up on me on I95. So I removed the 20% on the hatch and changed it to 35%. It does keep the car cooler now.
Here are the best pictures I could find on my computer to show the difference in the 20% on side windows and 35% on hatch. The black 944 has no tint.

It does

25% means it allows 25% of light through. 50% means it allows 50% of light through.

Ceramic tints - easier to see out of, but keep the car as cool as traditional darker tints.

I like the look of the same color tint all around. But legal here is only 35% on the front windows. I was thinking 25% all around. I don't know if driving by a cop they would notice a 10% difference.

Does anyone know what percent factory tint is on say a Jeep or another SUV?

I've heard that most vehicles are 40-50% in the rear and 80-90% in the front. Many tint laws only apply to the front windows. Some pickups today come with 20% tint on the rear window.

I have 20% in front and 15% in back on my Monte Carlo and I suppose I've just gotten so used to it that I never think it's hard to see out of. I have a hard time imagining that the 944 would be harder to see out of with that massive hatch window. I can understand those that are used to no tint having issues with it though.

Just make sure it's quality tint, my 944 was tinted sometime in the past and it's all turned purple and is full of scratches now.

Many tint laws are simple mirrors of the DOT requirements on OEMs...

Some states are much more liberal about enforcement than others... MD and Florida come to mind.. VA is a PITA, every PO caries a light meter in their car for spot checks, and they will pull you over to perform said checks...

Many states are now also restricting the instalation of reflective tints (many ceramic tints are also reflective in nature..).. you may know these as mirrored tint..

Just because a shop does the tinting, doesnt mean they know or understand the law.. educate yourself BEFORE spending the money, or you may end up spending it more than once!

There are many different grades of tint, and now are even phase shifting tints that will darken when exposed to UV (darker in the day light, lighter at night).. ceramics are the top of the line, but even with ceramics you will see much variation in the quality...

Cheap tint is easy to tear, turns purple over time, scratches easily, and is available just about anywhere.. high quality tinting film isn't cheap, but is virtually impossible to harm / scratch / dis-color... but you will not only pay for the film, but the installation as well...

the old addage of you get what you pay for applies to this arena as well... a cheap tint job is just that... a cheap tint job!

I have seen some high end tint jobs run well over 2K... I giggle a bit whenever I see someone say they got their entire car tinted for less than $200... high quality tint film costs more than that by itself! the color shifting films are more than that per linear foot depending on where you buy them from!

Any info on the UV shifting tints? I was thinking the other day about how nice something like that would be.

Here's the quality tint job that the dealer had installed on my Monte Carlo, lifetime warranty against everything. Compare it with whatever the tint on the 944 is.

I do not know the tint level of the 944 but I do know that it's purple on the inside and of cheap quality. It'll get removed when I can find a place willing to work with it.

Not the best of images but you can also get the idea of how the tint level appears in different lighting conditions and angle.

STM Advanced Window Film Solutions/PhotoCHromatic film PHC60

It outperforms Huper optic ceramic 60%, but is more expensive!
