Fix Oil/Coolant mix and no oil pressure or swap engine?
Which would be an easier thing to do? I can either pay a shop to fix my lack of oil pressure for $1100 or buy a new engine for $750 and try to put it in myself. Thoughts on this? One friend says it would be more convenient and faster to have the shop do it than to risk getting a new engine with potential problems and try to do it myself, but I think i can do it. the engine also has intermix in the coolant system

If you have the coolant/oil mix in the crankcase, Porsche wants you to change the rod bearings.
BUT.....
You mentioned the coolant/oil mix is in the cooling system. EASY DIY fix.
Your low oil pressure could be fixed if you replace the oil cooler housing gaskets and rebuild the OPRV with 2 new "O" rings. You might get a new oil pressure switch on the oil cooler housing. If you DIY the cost will be about $150 for parts and tools (OPRV alignment tool).
It is an intermediate skill DIY repair job.

I have an early 1985 porsche 944, the oil/coolant hasn't gotten into the crankcase yet. The car drove a short time with no oil getting through it, about a mile, the shop said they were gonna take out the oil pan to check and see if the pick up tube had fallen off or broken which would be the cause for no oil getting through the engine. (which requires the front end and crossmember to be taken off according to them) I tried to fix the oil cooler gasket myself and apparently screwed it up according to the shop, which is why i would want a new engine because i would have to replace the oil cooler anyways, then flush out the intermix, plus if it ends up that i damaged the engine with no oil I'd need a new one anyways
