No the power-prom I believe was written by Wilk - these were written by a different guy.

Well the R chip is quite likely to be designed for high-octane - beyond that I am curious as well. Russ Berry wrote these MAXHP chips.

Search www.maxhpkit.com for details...paid $250 for the chip.

This is by far the best chip out there for 944S. It removes the flat spot in the lower RPMs and increases redline....look at the dyno run charts on his site.

I do not need these any longer as I am converting to a full MAF setup soon.

The "R"chip was a 'special' from Russell for me to try it out...needs 93 octane fuel. Fuel maps are tweeked a tad more than the regular DME III 944S chip.

These will only work in a 944S.

At less than 1/2 price..a great deal.

BTW...Powerprom is a an ebay copy of an old Wilk chip IIRC. Not sure I'd trust it at all.

I might be able to pick one of those chips up soon. It does work on the 2.7 1987S right?

FYI...the 87 and 88 944S are a 2.5....the 1989 944 NA had the 2.7 engine only.

Could you explain a little about the "R" chip? Is it advancing the ignition timing? Designed for a greater VE?

IIRC Russell said it tweeked the timing/fuel maps a tad more than the DMEIII chip trying to squeeze out more hp/tq in the top end, thus requiring higher octane fuel to avoid any pinging. He said it was better suited for track use rather than street driving, fuel economy-wise too.

I'd bet with an S2 intake swap the "R" chip would really sing.

There's a guy on 944online forum who swapped to an S2 intake, and he sings its praises...great throttle response, really a whole new animal.

Yes...yet another project this summer methinks. That with the Miller Performance MAF might be a great upgrade.

The S2 intake is not an easy swap - different bolt pattern throttle body - throttle cable is different and mechanism brackets to it.

The TPS cable won't reach where the TPS ends up.

Nothing in the air intake will fit - you'll have to fab your own AFM and filter setup.

The IAV hoses are different, as are the vacuum lines, AOS hose, and basically everything.

The fuel lines to the fuel damper are a different length, so you need custom pieces of fuel hose, or a modified bracket to hold the damper further out.

Oil dipstick won't clear the brake reservoir so you have to bend the tab.

Am I leaving something out - most likely - about the only thing it does right with no hassle is bolt to the head!
